Finally for something a little different : Congress avenue bridge and its bats Starting in late March North America’s largest urban bat population of Mexican free tailed bats calls Austin home.  The best time to see the bats is around sunset, but this “nightly show” can happen anytime between 7:30 & 9:45 p.m. and  can take as long as 45 minutes for all of the bats to exit the bridge Head to grassy hill vantage point of the Statesman Bat Observation Center, adjacent to the bridge. or you can go down the steps at the corner of Congress Avenue and Barton Springs Road.
